Recommendations for use of double-sided tape

T-FIT® foam insulation products are available in pre-formed tubes and in sheet form. Based on ZOTEK® high-performance closed cell crosslinked foams from Zotefoams, both formats offer the same outstanding product performance.

This application profile outlines an approach to installation of T-FIT sheet insulation around storage tanks, ducts, vessels, etc. using a 3M double-sided tape and dispenser.

The tape is a high tack and shear strength, UV-resistant PSA tape suited for bonding T-FIT insulation sheet to steel, stainless steel or aluminium tanks, vessels etc.

The dispenser easily applies double-sided tape for bonding whilst automatically stripping the liner. For easy installation of T-FIT sheets, the dispenser applies exposed tape to the foam sheet, allowing the insulation sheet to be directly applied to the tank/vessel surface.

Installation details:

Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry and free of dust and contaminants that could interfere with adhesion of the tape.
Check the insulation sheet is free of all packaging, and placed on a flat, clean surface.
Use the applicator to apply double-sided tape to the foam surface, making sure to run the tape around all edges and to otherwise apply tape at ~250mm intervals when installing on a flat surface. Reduce this interval if installation is required on curved or complex surfaces. Firm pressure is required when applying the foam to the surface of the tank or vessel to activate the pressure-sensitive adhesive and ensure a strong bond.
Where any foam edges are exposed, sealant must be used to ensure a tight seal between the insulation sheet and tank/ vessel surface. Likewise, any joins between insulation sheets must be similarly sealed with adhesive. Sealant needs 24 hours to cure before any process becomes live.
